About Juniors
Juniors is the first year athletes play on a full size field (60/90) and with most of the "real" baseball rules, such as leads, steals and balks. However, there is still a continuous lineup, so all players hit.
Players
Juniors is open to players who are LL 13-15.
If the athlete is in high school, they can not participate while playing in an MCAL sport, but they may be able to join Juniors after the MCAL season is over.
Focus
Juniors has a mixed focus of both getting some players ready for high school baseball and allowing other players to enjoy their last years in organized baseball.
There is a strong emphasis on athletes taking personal responsibility for their own development and being good teammates. This is achieved with a focus on communication skills, fundamentals and baseball IQ.
Assessments and Teams
The season starts in late February with group practices, which are used instead of assessments. After a couple of weeks, the teams are drafted, and players are notified in early March.
Practices
Before the start of games, there are 2-4 practices a week, on Saturday and Sunday and on weeknights.
After the start of games, there are Saturday practices and one (1) weeknight practice that moves around depending on game schedules.
Games
If possible, the first game is played at Albert Field during opening day, which is normally a Saturday. Then there is generally, one weeknight game and one Sunday game per week. The weeknight games are held at Vallecito 1 or at an interleague field, and the Sunday games are at Albert Field or an interleague field.
Post Season Summary
Playoffs take place in early June.
The winner then represents SRLL in the District 3 Tournament of Champions, which normally is held in early to mid June.
Excellent players may be selected to play in the All Stars tournament which are normally held in late June to early July
